Most countertop companies are middlemen. They take your order, send it to a fabricator across the state, mark it up, and hope for the best. At The Granite House, we cut, shape, edge, and polish your stone ourselves at our Charlotte shop on Reames Rd. That means better quality control, faster turnaround, and no markup from a third party.
Fabrication is the process of turning a raw stone slab into a finished countertop that fits your kitchen exactly. It involves precision cutting, edge profiling, sink and cooktop cutouts, polishing, and quality inspection. Every countertop starts as a rough slab roughly 120" x 60" — fabrication is what turns that slab into something that drops perfectly into your space.
Here is the difference between working with a fabricator and working with a middleman: a middleman takes your measurements, sends them to someone else, and hopes the countertop comes back right. A fabricator — like us — does it all under one roof. If something needs adjusting during fabrication, we catch it immediately. If there is a vein in the granite that would land right where your sink cutout goes, we see it and adjust. That kind of control does not happen when your stone is being cut 200 miles away.
We have been fabricating countertops in Charlotte for 25 years. Francisco, the owner, still walks the shop floor every day. That is not a marketing line — it is how we catch problems before they reach your kitchen.
Six steps from raw slab to finished countertop. Every step happens at our Charlotte shop.
We create a precise digital template of your countertop space using laser measurement. This captures every angle, corner, and irregularity in your cabinets — down to 1/16 of an inch. No guesswork, no "close enough."
You pick your actual slab — not a sample tile, not a photo from a catalog. You see the full slab with its natural veining, color variation, and movement. We help you choose based on your kitchen lighting, cabinet color, and personal taste.
Your template is loaded into our CNC bridge saw, which cuts the stone with water-cooled diamond blades. CNC cutting means every cut matches your template exactly — no hand-cutting errors, no rough edges. Sink cutouts and cooktop openings are precision-cut at this stage.
We shape and profile the visible edges of your countertop using CNC routers. Whether you want a simple eased edge or a decorative ogee, the profile is cut consistently across every inch. Charlotte homeowners overwhelmingly choose eased or beveled edges — clean, modern, easy to maintain.
After cutting and edging, every surface is polished through a series of diamond pads — from coarse to fine — until the stone reaches its final finish. Polished, honed, or leathered: the finish affects both appearance and maintenance.
The same team that fabricated your stone installs it. We set the countertop, level it, apply adhesive, seal the stone, reconnect your plumbing, and clean up. Most kitchens are done in a single day.
When the same people who cut your stone also install it, they know exactly how it should fit. If there is a tight corner or an out-of-square wall, we adjust during fabrication — not during installation when it is too late.
Companies that outsource fabrication are at the mercy of someone else's schedule. A backed-up fabrication shop in another city can delay your project by weeks. Our turnaround is typically 5-7 business days from template to installation because everything happens in our Charlotte shop.
Need a curved bar top? A waterfall edge that wraps around an island? An angled peninsula that follows a bay window? In-house fabrication means we can handle custom geometry that pre-fab shops refuse. We have done L-shaped islands, radius corners, and slabs with integrated drainboards — all cut right here.
Seams are where fabrication quality shows. A well-fabricated seam is nearly invisible — color-matched, level, and tight. We dry-fit seams in the shop before installation so there are no surprises on install day. Our CNC cuts mean seam edges are perfectly straight, not hand-ground.
We fabricate all major countertop stones in Charlotte. Each material cuts differently and requires specific tooling and techniques.
Natural stone, heat-resistant, every slab unique. The most popular choice for Charlotte kitchens. Requires diamond-blade cutting and sealing after fabrication.
Engineered stone, consistent color, no sealing needed. Brands like Cambria and Silestone. Cuts cleanly on CNC but requires careful heat management during fabrication.
Natural metamorphic rock, harder than granite. Stunning veining and movement. Requires specialized blades and slower cutting speeds due to its extreme hardness.
Classic natural stone with distinctive veining. Softer than granite, requires careful handling during fabrication and thorough sealing. Popular for bathrooms and accent islands.
The edge profile is the shape of the visible edge of your countertop. It affects both the look and the practicality of your kitchen. Here are the most popular edges Charlotte homeowners choose in 2026:
A flat edge with slightly softened corners. Clean, minimal, and the most popular edge in Charlotte by far. Works with every kitchen style from modern to transitional. Easy to clean because there are no grooves for crumbs to hide in.
A flat edge with a 45-degree cut along the top. Adds a subtle line of definition without being ornate. Popular in Charlotte homes built in the 2010s and newer. Great choice if you want a step up from eased without going decorative.
A fully rounded edge — half-circle profile. Soft to the touch and forgiving if you bump into it. A good pick for homes with young kids. Common in traditional Charlotte kitchens and bathrooms.
An S-shaped decorative profile that gives a classic, formal look. Works best with thicker 3cm slabs and traditional kitchen designs. More expensive to fabricate because it requires multiple passes on the CNC router.
Not an edge profile in the traditional sense — a waterfall is when the countertop slab continues down the side of an island to the floor. The stone grain flows continuously from top to side. This is the statement piece in Charlotte kitchens right now, especially with quartzite and marble.
